QATAR Fertiliser Company (QAFCO), Hassad Food and Yara International ASA (Norway) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to support efforts to increase agricultural production in Qatar.
The partnership will focus on increasing the agricultural yield, in line with Qatar's plans to achieve self-sufficiency in food production in a sustainable manner.
Said Mobarak al Mohannadi, chairman QAFCO board of directors; Mohamed bin Badr al Sadah, chief executive officer of Hassad Food; and Svein Tore Holsether, president and chief executive officer of Yara International ASA; jointly signed the MoU.
The MoU formalises the ongoing efforts by the three entities to support Qatar's food security goals. Over the past months, they have been conducting workshops and farm tests along with several farmers in the country to lay the foundation for a successful outcome. Over the coming months, several test projects will be carried out on farms to demonstrate the yield potential and create best practices for the agricultural sector in Qatar.
The signing ceremony was attended and witnessed by Saad Sherida al Kaabi, president and CEO of Qatar Petroleum.
Mohannadi said,"Today marks an important milestone in the history of QAFCO, Yara and Hassad Food as the three entities become part of an ambitious initiative to support Qatar's food security objectives. We are confident that this project will prove to be one of the top contributors towards the development of the Qatari agricultural sector."
Sadah said,"It's our pleasure to be part of such a great partnership. Hassad, as Qatar's premier investor in food and agribusiness sectors, aims to continuously support the local agricultural sector. We are committed to supporting the two esteemed entities to increase the local production of high quality food products."
Holsether said,"Yara, with its vast experience in providing balanced crop nutrition, supports farmers worldwide to increase yield and improve the quality of produce. We sincerely look forward to contributing our products, solutions and knowledge to the Qatari agricultural sector, in collaboration with our two partners."
