QATAR Airways (QA) Group demonstrated its commitment to the fire life-safety of its staff and families by hosting its annual Fire Safety Week for the third consecutive year.
This is a significant week in the airline's safety calendar that is focused on conducting awareness-raising displays and activities at various company venues, aimed at reducing the risk of fires at home.
The official opening of Fire Safety Week 2018 was held at the airline's Oryx International School campus on February 20, where live and static fire-safety displays and activities were presented to children by Qatar Airways Group safety team members and fire safety trainers.
Qatar Airways Senior Vice-President Human Resources, Nabeela Fakhri, said:"Qatar Airways is proud of this initiative. We value the safety of our staff and their families. For this reason, we have expended great energy to ensure the fire safety message reaches as many homes and families as possible through this worthwhile annual event. It is wonderful to see so many staff and family members from all age groups actively participating."
A key activity of every Fire Safety Week is the annual fire safety poster competition. The annual awards for the competition winners have become the launch event and the much-anticipated highlight of the week.
Every year, the poster competition attracts hundreds of entries, all of whom are vying for the prizes and recognition that goes to the winner of each age group and the overall winner. This year also featured a special poster competition held for Oryx School students.
Entry is open to all company staff and family members, with entries judged and prizes awarded across several age groups from infant to adult. Posters are judged according to the relevance of their fire safety message and the presentation of the artwork. All entries must be original and hand-created.
As one of Qatar's leading employers, QA Group provides more than 10,000 accommodation units for staff members and their families in Doha. The airline considers the safety of staff in their accommodation to be as important to their duty of care as safety in the workplace.
While the Fire Safety Week is an initiative of QA Group Safety and Security Division, all departments are encouraged to be actively involved in making Fire Safety Week an engaging and rewarding part of the airline's community and workplace safety activities.
In support of this, QA talent development department's fire safety trainers, all of whom are former professional fire-fighters, conducted an impressive live-fire demonstration and imparted safety tips to the audience.
The airline's facilities management department provided equipment for the demonstration; Qatar Duty Free (QDF) donated a variety of valuable prizes for the worthy winners; and all the Oryx School students were provided with a special meal pack prepared by Qatar Aircraft Catering Company.
