The 7th edition of Halal Qatar Festival kicked off at the Cultural Village Foundation ” Katara on Friday with a host of activities. The first day of the festival saw a large turnout of visitors.
The festival, which runs until March 10, witnessed new activities such as the"Al Nukhba" (Elite) auction for special breeds of sheep and goats.
The festival will shed light on the crucial role livestock breeding and trade played in the past as well as on the attempts to preserve this integral component of Qatari culture and heritage.
Inaugurating the festival, Katara General Manager Khalid bin Ibrahim al Sulaiti said this year's edition was unique and bigger.
"The event this year has been organised in a larger area with more shops and pavilions participating in it. More activities have also been added this year. The facilities provided to livestock breeders and visitors contribute to making this event more inclusive. It is one of the largest festivals Katara hosts to preserve the Qatari heritage," Sulaiti said.
The nine-day festival includes many entertainment and educational shows in the morning and evening with an array of competitions and prizes for the winners.
The festival features a variety of activities such as exhibitions of photography, handicraft and traditional cuisine in addition to folk songs and traditional games.
The festival also hosts an old Souq, traditional tent and horse and camel rides.
