Traditional fine-dining cuisine from the Indian subcontinent along with ambience and pocket-friendly prices can be quite a poser in Qatar.
But like Bobby McFerrin said, Don't worry, be happy, for Spicy Route, the award-winning restaurant redefining North Indian dining experience has arrived in Qatar.
Located in serene environment, its combination of exquisite interiors, white-cushioned sofas, neatly set up tables and interesting metal pieces adorning the ceilings, all designed by two of India's finest architects Lalita Tharani and Mujib Ahmed, gives the feeling of walking into a five-star hotel.
When you first enter the restaurant, tucked away in an almost unnoticeable but very ambient area in Barwa Village, you are instantly ushered into a bright and energetic atmosphere which leaves your taste buds watering in excitement of what to expect.
This impressive fine-dining restaurant offers a very large, hip space with modern d`cor. Spicy Route operates on two floors, complete with multiple types of seating.
The restaurant's kitchen, located on the ground floor, is surrounded by a glass wall to allow customers watch their food being prepared in front of them.
Diners have the option of either sitting on the ground floor which offers a roomy, high-ceiling set-up or the upper floor with its cozier, low-ceiling atmosphere.
Just like the seating area, the menu has something for everyone. Whether you are vegetarian, vegan or gluten-free, there is an option for you at Spicy Route.
The various spice jars, conspicuously arranged on the shelves on the first floor, are a striking feature at the restaurant.
"The spices on display talk directly about who we are. The Spice Route reflects the journey of spices from the Malabar Coast in Kerala through Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Middle East over several thousand years. Through trading in the old days, these Indian spices were brought to various places across the world and became instrumental in the popularity of Indian spices that we know today," said Spicy Route Managing Partner Jeronimo D'Souza.
"We pride ourselves on fresh, healthy food. Spicy Route focuses on bringing a casual, fast approach to traditional Indian dishes, and that is exactly what we've done. Our customers range from Indians and other people from the sub-continent with good taste for fine food as well as Qataris and Westerners who love traditional Indian cuisine," he added.
Spicy Route doesn't skimp on showcasing its rich traditional Indian food. From the delectable Lamb Chops, Buraji Kebab, and Mutton Patiala, Seekh Kebab to all types of briyani as well as its enticing Bhuna Gosht the restaurant makes you yearn for more.
More? Try the signature dessert Kamal Katori, served in an orange peel that has a creamy and refreshing mix from milk and juicy orange pieces that bursts in your mouth.
Spicy route menus also allow you to build your own plate with options such as bowls, salads and wraps. While the interior of Spicy Route may be modern, the food at Spicy Route is definitely prepared with traditional taste.
While making Indian food approachable to those who may not be accustomed, Spicy Route is definitely giving a fun twist for those who are.
