Tribune News NetworkDohaDeans of faculties at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) have expressed excitement to welcome another set of students from diverse professional and cultural backgrounds to the campus for a new academic session. In their welcome addresses to the students, the dean urged the students to unleash their potentials in order to benefit from expertise and experience of their tutors and supervisors.Dr Georges Nemer, interim dean, College of Health and Life Sciences, HBKU, said: “We warmly congratulate our incoming students on their acceptance to HBKU. We look forward to having them as new members of our growing family, which is part of the future of Qatar, preparing the next generation of health carers and educators to make an impact for years to come. The college is well diversified in its biological and biomedical sciences, genomics and precision medicine, and exercise science programmes. “They will be enriched with knowledge and experience in state-of-the-art basic, clinical and translational research approaches that are fundamental to advances in biomedical and health sciences. In this post-pandemic year, in the year of the FIFA World Cup for Qatar, we are very enthusiastic to have them start the new academic year with us.” Dr Amal Al Malki, founding dean, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, HBKU, siad: “I would like to welcome all our newly accepted students in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and learners at the Translation and Interpreting Institute. They join a robust and thriving community. “The college expects a lot out of our students, but at the same time offers them all the opportunities possible: a world-class education that also connects them with organisations and community actors who can help them develop their skills beyond the classrooms. They will have multiple opportunities to be published and to work on research.” She added, “Our expectation is that they will leave with sound knowledge in the applications and methodologies demanded within the interdisciplinary fields of Translation and Interpreting and Middle Eastern Studies. The skills and experience they gain at HBKU will equip them to contribute and excel in a rapidly evolving world. Today, they start a journey as part of a supportive community that will help them to prosper and grow, personally and professionally.”Dr Ibrahim Mohamed Zein, interim dean, College of Islamic Studies, HBKU, said: “I would like to welcome our new and returning students for the coming academic year. The college’s exceptionally designed programmes, rich research ecosystem and engaging community life will present students with an exciting academic journey. They will be equipped to contribute to scholarship that illuminates the place of Islam in the context of global affairs.”Dean Susan L Karamanian, College of Law, HBKU, said: “We congratulate our new students on their admission into one of the College of Law’s degree programmes. This will be an exciting year, particularly given the world’s attention on Qatar as it hosts the FIFA World Cup 2022. While at the College of Law, our students will learn about the norms shaping the law, the ways the law can be interpreted and other aspects of application of the law. “In addition to developing their analytical skills and gaining substantive legal knowledge, our students will have many opportunities to become engaged with the local Qatar community as well as with lawyers and other professionals well beyond Qatar. By attending our many public lectures, symposia and roundtables, or participating in writing or oral advocacy competitions, our students will prepare themselves to work in the legal profession and related fields and bring to the workplace the highest ethical standards.”Dr Leslie A Pal, founding dean, College of Public Policy, HBKU, said: “I would like to welcome our new students as we look to the exciting new academic year ahead. Students are assured of world-class academic and professional training to develop solid theoretical knowledge and specialisations within public policy and the social sciences. Their skills will enable them to understand and enrich policymaking in Qatar, the region, and globally. The coming year is going to be one of engagement and excitement for the college and for HBKU as part of the larger Qatar Foundation ecosystem. We look forward to having them be part of that.”Dr Mounir Hamdi, founding dean of the College of Science and Engineering, HBKU, said: “A warm congratulation to our new students on their acceptance to study at the College of Science and Engineering. They have an opportunity to develop their academic and entrepreneurial capacities while gaining cutting-edge knowledge across multiple disciplines. Our pioneering programmes are taught and advised by some of the best professors in the world. “Research training within our world-class facilities, and those of our partner institutes, will be an integral aspect of their unique learning experience. Their education at HBKU will prepare them to advance local and regional insights using the latest tools and principles. The diverse, multidisciplinary expertise they develop will open excellent opportunities for them upon graduation.”
