The Old Airport Road in Doha is likely to get a pedestrian bridge shortly. According to sources, the construction of the bridge will be completed within a few weeks and is likely to feature state-of-the-art design and facilities. The bridge will connect offices of leading semi-government offices on one side with restaurants and shopping centres on the other, benefitting scores of employees and shoppers.
The bridge is to come as part of the Ministry of Transport and Communication's Qatar Pedestrian Crossings Master Plan (QPCMP) that was launched recently to enhance the safety of pedestrians.
The QPCMP has concept designs for 50 crosswalk locations, which have been selected on the basis of public feedback. It includes 26 pedestrian overpasses and underpasses, and 24 crosswalks over the roads.
An employee at a telecommunication firm located close to the Old Airport Road said,"The new bridge will offer better connectivity for pedestrians who work in offices and commercial outlets on both sides of the road. It will not only offer the public a safe crossing, but also benefit the businessmen who run their businesses the area."
