FOLLOWING an unprecedented and hassle-free electronic voting system, the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation Qatar chapter (NIDO-Qatar) ushered in a new executive council in Doha on Saturday.
The NIDO-Qatar is the first diaspora organisation to implement the foolproof electronic system to elect its executive members.
The new executive members are Victor Ikoli, president; Sharafa Oladayo Olayiwola, vice-president; Emeka Cecil Ogugbuaja, general secretary; Ajibade Lateef Adebowale, assistant general secretary; Opadijo Jelili, public relations officer; Famous Aluya Iremhinmhe, financial secretary; Omogiate Precious Osagiemwangbon, social secretary; Balogun Rafiat Adebisi, treasure; and Saheed Ademola Kazeem, chief whip.
Others are Irole Austin Sunny Chibueze, welfare officer 1; Sixtus Onyekachi, welfare officer 2, Okani Francis Izuchukwu, welfare officer 3; and Gloria Ocheche, welfare officer 4.
In his acceptance speech, Ikoli thanked the members of the community for the trust reposed in him for electing him to lead the dynamic organisation that boasts professional in various fields and offices in Qatar, lauding the electoral committee first chaired by Noimat Olayiwola then by Segun Abayomi for conducting a free and fair election.
He vowed to deliver on his electoral promises, particularly in ensuring that Nigerian Immigration Service provides a permanent data capturing machine to process international travelling passport for Nigerians in Qatar, while emphasising the need to coordinate the Nigerian government to enable the members of the community benefit from various government schemes back home.
Ikoli said his administration would also forge a means to facilitate a better relation between Nigerian community and different governmental and non-governmental institutions in Qatar.
He thanked the government of Qatar for holding the community in high esteem, particularly with the signing of memoranda of understanding with bodies such as the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) and the Supreme Council for Delivery and Legacy (SC), stressing that the new administration would strive to bolster the relations.
Members of the community at the inauguration ceremony charged the new executive council to promote a united, coherent organisation that will be a model for other expatriate communities in Qatar and around the world.
