DOHA: The Ministry of Transport (MoT) has underscored the pivotal role of the Qatar Freight Master Plan (QFMP) in positioning Qatar's land freight sector at the forefront of global best practices.

In a social media post on Saturday, the MoT emphasised the significance of the QFMP, finalised as part of its updated strategy aligned with Qatar National Vision 2030 (QNV 2030).

Designed to enhance Qatar's status as a premier hub for logistic services and land freight, the QFMP champions the adoption of cutting-edge standards in efficiency, sustainability, and innovation, according to statements from the MoT.

Key objectives outlined in the QFMP include the development of a framework for multimodal land freight, enhancing road network efficiency, integration with truck movement and logistics areas, as well as formulating procedures and guidelines for planning and designing land freight roads. Additionally, the plan aims to propose interventions and policies to bolster the national freight sector.

The plan's significance lies in establishing an integrated, multimodal shipping system, enhancing the efficiency of the freight network, boosting Qatar's competitiveness in attracting supply chain operations and international trade, and reinforcing Qatar's global leadership in sustainability.

Among the key outputs of the QFMP are 86 recommendations, initiatives, and projects tailored to serve the land freight and logistics sectors. Notable deliverables include the Freight Roads Planning Guide, Freight Roads Design Manual, policies, and regulations shaping the future of the freight sector, as well as the QFMP's Geographic Information System (GIS) Portal.

The unveiling of the Qatar Freight Master Plan marks a significant milestone in Qatar's journey towards becoming a global leader in logistics and underscores the nation's commitment to sustainable economic development and innovation in the transport sector.
