DOHA: Qatar University's Inclusion and Special Needs Support Center marked the World Autism Awareness Day, in a bid to boost societal awareness on autism and further integrate autistic children into society, enhance their self-confidence.

The celebration also sought to enhance the provision of psychological support and social care for autistic children and their families.

Head of Accommodation and Community Outreach at Qatar University, Professor Haya Ahmed Al Kuwari said that the Inclusion and Special Needs Support Center seeks to build bridges of diverse understanding and awareness inside and outside the campus, through cooperation with colleges on campus and holding awareness workshops for teaching staff and students to raise awareness of the issues and challenges facing students, including students with autism disorder.

Head of the Assistive Technology and Universal Design for Learning, Fatima Yousef Al Kuwari said that the Center is cooperating with relevant ministries and institutions in the country and a large number of higher education institutions in Qatar and the region with the aim of exchanging best practices and experiences and spreading awareness regarding the affairs of persons with disabilities.

Nujoud Al Maqati, a special needs specialist, said that the center works to integrate students into university life in a comprehensive and effective manner to ensure equal opportunities and provide a supportive educational experience for students with autism spectrum disorder in their university career.
