Doha
Qatar, the place we call home, is indeed a beautiful land boasting of a quaint mix of the old and the new. While on one hand, the skyline boasts of futuristic skyscrapers with ultramodern architecture beckoning its citizens, on the other hand, the shoreline of beaches and dunes with the traditional dhows bobbing on the azure waters urge us to explore its glorious past.
During the past decade, Qatar has emerged as one of the favourite destinations for tourists from all around the world. Helping boost tourism in the country is the praiseworthy decision of the Qatar government to grant visa-free entry to citizens of a number of countries.
As we hit the middle of the third month and before the weather drives the mercury up the thermometer, I urge everyone not to remain cooped up inside their houses, or to go to the same places Al Corniche, Souq Waqif, Katara but to try and visit these places at least once.
1. Zekreet
It is Qatar's very own version of the Grand Canyon and certainly words can't do justice as to what you will see here. The whole area looks fascinating with limestone formations scattered all around and is a paradise for people interested in rock-climbing and camping. One can definitely boast of witnessing the perfect sunset once you've been here.

2. Qanat Quartier
To get a whiff of Venice, right here in Qatar, one must visit the Venetian-style section of The Pearl-Qatar. It is a true visual wonder with intricate canals and stylish bridges with colourful houses on either side. I recommend an afternoon walk at the pedestrian-friendly squares and plazas, while stopping by at one of the many cafes to enjoy some good coffee and pastries.

3. Simaisma Beach
Situated approximately 45 km north of Doha, Simaisma is a small town in itself, with the beach marking one end of the town. The beach boasts of clean, silver sand and stretches out from a natural jetty, skirting a small cluster of mangroves. The whole area offers a sense of extreme peace and tranquility. There's good news for barbecue lovers. Here you will find ready-to-fire barbecue racks, so all you need to do is to carry the coal. But please don't forget to clean up afterwards.

4. Baladna Farm and Al Khor Park
The recently opened Baladna farm is the home of Baladna dairy products. It is a great platform for children to have a first-hand experience about the products' manufactured here, food safety and animal welfare. In just a 30-minute drive north from the farm is located Al Khor Park which is home to huge landscaped, grassy lawns, a tiny zoo and shaded playgrounds.

5. Aspire Park
The number of activities which can be indulged in at the Aspire Park and Zone is endless. Just saying that every time one goes there, one would have a new experience should suffice. So, without giving in to the temptation of wandering to the cool of nearby The Villaggio or Hyatt Plaza, it is strongly advised to explore the Aspire area. Trust me, one will always return with a feeling of time spent well.
