Several roads in Qatar were littered with smashed-off bumper corners and mud flaps as speeding vehicles drove into puddles formed in the torrential rain on Thursday morning.

The downpour, accompanied by thunder and lightning, that hit Qatar early on Thursday morning is forecast to continue intermittently throughout the weekend, the Qatar Meteorology Department has said.

The overcast conditions and the downpour brought down temperatures to as low as 29°C — a rarity during the typically-dry months of July and August when summer is at its peak in Qatar. The temperatures are forecast to range between 37°C and 28°C on Friday and 38°C and 30°C on Saturday.
