QNACairoDirector of Legal Affairs at the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) Nasser Marzouq Al Marri, stressed the critical role of national human rights institutions in assisting societies in overcoming crises, threats, and impacts with the least possible harm to human rights.Al Marri, who represented the NHRC, went over the working paper he presented at the 4th high-level Arab regional conference on human rights protection and promotion. The conference, titled ‘The impact of crises on human rights enjoyment: COVID-19 pandemic as a model’, was held at the Arab League Secretariat General.The working paper demonstrated the NHRC’s effective role in managing the COVID-19 pandemic in the State of Qatar by responding quickly to the crisis by establishing mechanisms to mitigate its effects such as remotely receiving petitions, developing mechanisms to respond to complaints during the pandemic and quarantine, and welcoming all aspects of local and international cooperation to limit the impacts of COVID-19.Al Marri emphasised the NHRC’s role in strengthening and protecting human rights in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.
