THE Bangladesh Embassy in Qatar observed the 98th birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Children's Day in Doha on Saturday.
The embassy held an elaborate programme including discussion on the life and works of the Father of the Nation, a drawing competition for children and a cake-cutting ceremony.
A special prayer was also offered for the departed soul of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and for the peace, progress and prosperity of the country.
Messages of President, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Bangladesh were read out on the occasion.
In his speech, Ambassador of Bangladesh to Qatar HE Ashud Ahmed recalled Bangabandhu's unique role in the emergence of Bangladesh as an independent country. He thanked the Bangladeshi expatriates in Qatar for their hard work and contributions to nation building.
He also urged upon all to bring up their children as patriotic citizens of the country for playing pioneering role for turning the country into a 'golden Bengal' as dreamt by Bangabandhu. An audio-visual presentation on the colourful life and works of Bangabandhu was screened during the discussion meeting.
At the end of the day's programme, the ambassador and his spouse Rebeka Sultana distributed certificates and prizes among the winners and participants of the drawing competition. (TNN)
