Several parts of the country witnessed scattered to moderate rainfall on Monday, with Qatar Meteorological Department (QMD) warning of thunder rain associated with strong wind and poor visibility on Tuesday.
“The weather will be cloudy with a chance of moderate to heavy rains accompanied by thunder and strong wind from today until the beginning of Wednesday, April 17, 2024. During this period, the wind with gusts exceeding 50KT could also be accompanied by hail,” the QMD said.
Strong winds are also predicted to exceed 50 knots with a chance of hail.
"Sea state will be rough where the sea waves ranging between 10-12ft rising to 16ft at times," QMD said.
The QMD called on everyone to be cautious and follow thunderstorm safety guidelines. It further stressed the importance of receiving information from official sources only.
In light of these forecasts, the Civil Aviation Authority has urged the public to exercise caution and adhere to safety protocols during thunderstorms.
Due to expected heavy rainfall and strong winds, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) has urged the public to take extra precautions and cancel all sea and coastal areas activities.
"Due to the expected heavy rainfall and strong winds, we urge seagoers to cancel all land and sea activities to ensure the safety of all," the MoI said in a post on X platform.
Similarly, the Ministry of Labour urged employers to exercise caution during the expected weather conditions.
Employers were also urged to adhere to occupational health and safety guidelines, as well as to provide protective measures to safeguard workers in the workplace.
