France’s Valentin Paret-Peintre celebrated his first professional win with his brother at the finish line on stage 10 of the Giro d’Italia.
The 23-year-old launched a late attack on the final 18 kilometre finishing climb at Bocca della Selva and overtook Slovenia’s Jan Tratnik 3 kilometres from the end. Paret-Peintre’s elder sibling Aurélien, who won stage four on the Giro last year, finished fifth and immediately celebrated Valentin’s success.
Romain Bardet made it a French one-two as he also passed Tratnik to trail Valentin Paret-Peintre by 29 seconds.
"I was there to get a good result in the stage and why not win? Now I have a stage win for my first professional win,” said Decathlon-AG2R La Mondiale’s Valentin Paret-Peintre. Tadej Pogacar maintained his lead over Colombia’s Daniel Martinez and Great Britain’s Geraint Thomas at the top of the overall standings with an advantage of two minutes and 40 seconds.
