Catherine W GichukiDOHA The Embassy of Kenya in Qatar, in association with Kenyan Community in Qatar, has recognised a number of Kenyans who have volunteered to render their services to other Kenyans in Qatar.About fifteen Kenyans from various Kenyan community groups received a certificate of appreciation from the Kenyan Embassy Chargé d’affaires Ambassador Washington Oloo, who commended the recipients for providing support for other Kenyans. The men and women who were appreciated represented various groups such as men and women football groups, cultural groups, domestic workers, distress team, food distribution, feed a friend volunteer and many others who engage in humanitarian work in the Kenyan community.Ambassador Oloo thanked them for their efforts in supporting others voluntarily. “We are grateful for the good work that you have been doing, especially with the community leaders. I have realised that the community leaders manage to solve the small issues. When I look at the issues that are coming to the embassy, compared to what used to happen before, they have drastically gone down. I attribute it to the good leadership and the effort that all of you are putting in and making sure all Kenyans are reached,” he said.Ambassador Oloo reiterated that without the support from the community, the embassy would not be able to reach out to all Kenyans residing in Qatar. For his part, Chairman of Kenyan Community in Qatar Omar Farah said, “Your presence, contribution, effort, dedication, human nature and mission have considerably lifted the name of Kenya and hence deserves recognition. For those who helped this to become a reality, I say thank you; the smiles, the encouraging words, the volunteerism spirit that you shared and the hope you bring to the Kenyan society deserve our appreciation. Service to others is service to God. Let the love and light of the community radiate through you until all who look upon you shall be illuminated by its reflection. You have been stars for us, brilliant and sparkling in the loftiness of your heavenly station.”Farah added that this was a start for this initiative in partnership with the embassy and hoped that the event will be bigger in the future. “Each group which has a unique focus that adds up to lifting the Kenyans’ matters to the committee and the mission never get tired at all as we pray for you to have good health, wisdom, abundance and mindfulness all through your life. We love you, love what you do and feel privileged to associate with you,” he added.
