Embracing unity, PSME–Qatar (PSME-Q) brought together young and seasoned mechanical engineers, as well as old and new members, during its first General Membership Meeting and Technical Seminar held at Dusit Westbay, Doha on April 26.
As Dr. Arlan Beltran (PSME Deputy VP for Foreign Affairs) put it, "it was like a reunion of the early batches of PSME-Q members, and most of the attendees were thrilled to catch up with past presidents and pioneer members”.
The event was divided into two parts: Technical Presentation and the Plenary Session. It focused on the theme, ‘Unified Mechanical Engineers Key Toward Prosperous Industrial Revolution 5.0’.
PSME-Q Chapter President, Andy Dipasupil kicked off the event with his welcome address. He lauded PSME-Q’s active and supportive membership, and underscored the importance of working together to achieve their common goals for the year. He also re-affirmed the chapter’s commitment to promote and support the member’s professional and technical advancement through the lineup of seminars, programs and collaborations in the coming days.
In his keynote address, PSME National President, Engr. Jeremy T. Aguinea, said his leadership is currently coordinating with the government to support the local manufacturing business in the Philippines, in line with his advocacy to promote "Talinong Pinoy, Galing ng Pinoy at Produktong Pinoy”.
Meanwhile, PPO-Q Chairman, Engr. Teofilo Tongson Jr. encouraged the PSME-Q members to grab the opportunity to engage with peers who are experts in different industries, and to foster unity and harmony, which according to him, are the core values in an organisation.
PSME-Q was also honored to have Consul General, Hon. Cassandra Sawadjaan who delivered HE Ambassador Lillibeth V. Pono’s congratulatory message for the successful convening of PSME-Q’s 1st GMM.
Cherry Cureg,MWO’s Head for Assistance to Nationals also graced the event and thanked the Filipino Mechanical Engineers for setting a standard of excellence that inspires future generations of engineers. Other inspirational speakers included Engr. Ronnie D. Maligmat (PSME NVP-ME), Engr. Marren de Luna (PSME NVP-NCR), Dr. Sonny Calma (PSME NVP-E&T), and Dr. Arlan Beltran (PSME Deputy VP for Foreign Affairs).
Following the inspiring messages, PSME-Q Charter President, Engr. Eugene Bautista presided over the Charging and Oath Taking of the new Board of Trustees while IPP Engr. Henry Regalado administered the oath taking of new members.
The technical presentations commenced with an ‘Overview of the Hybrid Fire Extinguishing System’ discussed by Engr. Mohammad Musthafa, followed by the interesting Product and Service Presentations of IRISS, Inc, the event’s platinum sponsor.
Their presentation introduced the advanced technologies being offered by their company to facilitate safe inspection and ensure reliability of different machinery and equipment. A display of their equipment was also put up for attendees to better appreciate the technical discussions.
The last technical presentation delved on ‘Advancing the Mechanical Engineering Profession through Artificial Intelligence’. It was discussed by Engr. Jose Ronaldo E. Rosello, Chairman of PSME AIR TD. All participants who were able to complete the questionnaires and other requirements were eligible to 3 CPD units which they can use in the renewal of their professional registrations.
Prior to closing the first part, Plaques of Recognition were awarded to the newly conferred ASEAN Engineers, and to the successful PME examinees. Finally, VPE Engr. Cris Billones rendered his thanksgiving and closing remarks.
For the plenary session, PSME-Q Chapter President, Engr. Andy Dipasupil presented the accomplishments for the previous months and the planned activities for the rest of the year, followed by the open forum.
With enthusiastic members united for a common goal, and with all programs in place, PSME-Q is bound to reach greater heights together.
