Chairman of Qatar Cancer Society (QCS) HE Sheikh Dr Khalid bin Jabor Al Thani on Sunday launched the new ‘Wayakum’ platform, the first of its kind in the Gulf region, to help cover cancer treatment costs, at an event attended by Chairman of the Omani Cancer Association Dr Waheed Al Khousi.

Thanking those involved in making this platform a reality, Sheikh Dr Khalid emphasised the crucial support from Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), Sidra Hospital and the National Centre for Cancer Care and Research (NCCCR).

In addition to recognising key supporters, he highlighted the vital collaboration with the Regulatory Authority for Charitable Activities and the ‘Sanad’ platform, which oversees the work of various associations.

He said, “Our connection with the Sanad platform is very important as it supervises the work of the associations from the ground up. I was surprised to know that 23 entities are connected to the platform. This shows great progress. The main goal is to convince everyone that everything is now electronically linked and ready for everyone to engage with.”

He added, “These humanitarian and supportive efforts reflect the society’s commitment to providing comprehensive care for cancer patients and the necessary support for them and their families during the treatment period, which helps alleviate the financial burden they may face in such difficult circumstances. We are committed to continuing our efforts to provide support and care for cancer patients, and we strive diligently to expand the scope of services and increase the effectiveness of providing financial and moral support to all those in need.”

Emphasising the importance of feedback, the QCS chairman stressed the need for continual improvement of the platform, with the primary objective of caring for and supporting patients as much as possible.

He also praised Sami, a cancer survivor, for his courage in sharing his challenging journey, stating, “I thank Sami for his presence and the strength he showed us. It’s not easy to stand and talk about such a difficult experience.”

The launch of the ‘Wayakum’ platform represents a significant advancement in the Gulf region, allowing patients and their families to request financial support remotely, thus facilitating quicker treatment and recovery. This initiative aligns with Qatar’s vision of a safe and healthy nation.

Developed in accordance with the standards of the Regulatory Authority for Charitable Activities and connected to the ‘Sanad’ platform, the ‘Wayakum’ platform coordinates assistance across the country with the help of 23 government and charitable institutions. It marks a major step in providing comprehensive support to cancer patients in Qatar, accelerating the treatment process and fostering cooperation among various supportive entities to achieve Qatar’s health and humanitarian goals.

Echoing the importance of support, cancer survivor Sami Al Asali shared his experience, saying, “The importance of moral support cannot be overstated. The Qatar Cancer Society plays a crucial role in providing support, awareness and guidance. Using the Wayakum platform was easy and didn’t take much time.”

The platform can be accessed by visiting the society’s website [https://www.qcs.qa/] or by downloading the ‘Wayyakum’ application from the app stores (Google Play – Apple Store).
