Ooredoo has become the first operator in the world to launch 5G service commercially, the company announced on Monday.
Ooredoo Qatar Chief Executive Officer Waleed al Sayed said the company's live 5G network on the 3.5GHz spectrum band is available in Qatar from Monday. Ooredoo's 5G network is the first commercially available 5G network in the world and is an important technological breakthrough for the telecommunications industry worldwide, he said.
About 80 percent of Qatar would be covered under the 5G network within a year. Sayed said,"It's a historic day for Qatar and Ooredoo. We are the first company in the world to offer access to 5G technology and services."
