THE Public Works Authority 'Ashghal' announced on Monday that the first and second zones of Al Khor Corniche Development Project will open to public on Tuesday (May 15) following the completion of the main works.
The third zone, which is the last one, will be opened during the first half of the Holy Month of Ramadan.
Moreover, the opening ceremony of the first and second zones of Al Khor Corniche was held in the presence of Central Municipal Council member from Al Khor Nasser bin Ibrahim al Muhannadi.
In his speech, Muhannadi praised Ashghal's efforts to renovate the Corniche and open it to the public in record time. He added that Al Khor Corniche will be a suitable leisure destination not only for residents of Al Khor, but to all residing in surrounding areas and in different parts of Qatar.
Hamad Ali al Muraikhi, Department of Public Services manager at Al Khor Municipality, said that Al Khor Corniche is an important venue for all Al Khor residents and visitors and thanked Ashghal for completing the work in a short time.
The project includes the construction, maintenance and renovation of the entire Corniche that is composed of three zones with an area of about 28,000 square metres. The project started in November, 2017.
Engineer Hend al Mahmeid, project engineer in Ashghal's Buildings Projects Department, stated that the project includes replacing the pedestrian walkway floor, which was made of concrete, with 22,500 square metres of granite and interlock of different designs, shapes and colours.
Apart from giving Al Khor Corniche a distinctive aesthetic character, granite also resists salt and weather conditions on the beach, she added. (TNN)
