THE Community College of Qatar (CCQ) celebrated the graduation of its Class of 2018 on Monday evening in a ceremony held at the Qatar National Convention Center under the patronage of the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al Thani.
The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Energy and Industry HE Dr Mohammed bin Saleh al Sada, Minister of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs HE Dr Issa bin Saad al Jafali al Nuaimi, members of CCQ board of trustees and CCQ faculty, in addition to families and friends of the graduating students.
Outgoing CCQ President and Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education Dr Ibrahim al Nuaimi said that CCQ has evolved over the years into an important actor and contributor to education in Qatar by promoting innovative education accessible to Qatari citizens from various backgrounds and academic qualifications.
"Student enrollment at CCQ grew to around 5,000 students, compared to 300 students in 2010. On the other hand, the number of academic programmes witnessed another important leap with 15 programmes currently offered at CCQ, including diversified associate and bachelor's degrees," he added.
Furthermore, Nuaimi noted that CCQ is graduating its largest class to date with 880 students graduating this year, among which is the first batch of Associate of Applied Arts in Theatre Arts which comes as a result of the strategic partnership and cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and Sports.
CCQ president expressed his joy over the exemplary advancement of CCQ since its opening, but at the same conveyed his sadness for leaving his responsibility as president of CCQ in order to fulfill his duties as the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.
However, Nuaimi expressed his confidence that his successor Dr Mohamed bin Ibrahim al Nuaimi, the newly appointed CCQ president, will continue the journey of development and great achievements making CCQ a qualitative addition to the State of Qatar through significant contributions to building national cadres and skilled personnel in various fields.
Addressing the audience on behalf of her peers, a CCQ graduate of the Class of 2018 extended her gratitude to the Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani, the Father Emir HH Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al Thani and Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser for their continued support of education in Qatar.
