Tribune News NetworkDoha The Ministry of Endowment (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs on Tuesday signed a cooperation agreement with the Ministry of Defence (MoD) to recruit those assigned to the National Service Academy in Miqdam camp to join the profession of imam, caller to prayer and preachers in the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs. The agreement is an embodiment of the visions and goals of the wise leadership in supplying the country’s mosques with Qatari preachers and imams to lead worshipers and make the call to prayer as they are the most capable to understand the issues of society and know its needs and aspirations.The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs was represented by Muhammad Hamad Al Kuwari, director of the Department of Mosques, while the Ministry of Defence was represented by Brigadier-General Saud Ali Al Hanzab, director of Staff of the National Service Academy.The signing of the agreement between the two parties comes within the framework of the keenness of the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs to strengthen the societal partnership with state institutions and to achieve its strategy of attracting and qualifying Qatari imams and muezzins to work in the country’s mosques with the Belief in their active role in upgrading the values and morals of members of society and strengthening the aspects of faith and fraternal ties that the true Sharia promotes.The three-year agreement, which becomes effective from the date of its signing, will be automatically renewed for a similar period or periods. The Ministry of Defence will receive applications for those wishing to join the training courses for imams and preachers through Moral Guidance at the Academy, provided that the selection of the applicants is in accordance with the terms and conditions set by the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs.The agreement also stipulates that the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs will train and qualify the enrolled participants in the imam and oratory through a selection by teachers and preachers specialised in this field, along with the provision of books and materials necessary to enable teachers to carry out their training tasks, while the Ministry of Defence will provide a well-equipped place for the course at the National Service Academy camp ‘Miqdam’. The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs will test the trainees participating in the courses to ensure their comprehension of the subjects taught through a written examination that must be successfully passed, in addition to an oral test in memorisation of three parts of the Noble Qur’an.The two parties will then coordinate to hold a ceremony to honour the successful candidates to motivate other recruits at the National Service Academy to participate in the subsequent courses.The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs will assign the imams who have qualified for the courses to work in the country’s mosques to lead the worshipers, call to prayer in all prayers and Tarawih and Tahajjud prayers during the Holy Month of Ramadan.
