A new Gold Souq, which promises to be a top destination for gold buyers, is in the final stages of construction in the heart of Doha and will open soon for the public.
A cluster of more than 50 shops, the beautifully designed complex with its unique golden hue will surely become a landmark site.
Even though Doha has long had a Gold Souq at Al Ghanim, the new infrastructure projects have pushed it into the background. Once all the shops in Souq Najada open, it is expected to become one of the most crowded areas in the city.
"Gold jewellery business has increased manifold in the last couple of years. The increasing number of Asian expatriates has fuelled the demand for gold and has made jewellery business in Doha strong. A number of shops under a single roof will create healthy competition that will ultimately it will benefit the customers," manager of a jewellery shop at the new Gold Souq told Qatar Tribune.
Sales and marketing manager of an India-based jewellery group said,"As part of our ongoing expansion plan in the Gulf region, we are looking for an ideal location. We already have attractive collections of jewellery. We have plans to open a special section for jewellery manufactured in Doha."
"We have plans to increase local production by deploying skilled designers. There are enough skilled workers to make items like rings, lockets, chains, bangles and bracelets," he added.
