Qatar Cup champions Al Wakrah on Wednesday signed up Spaniard Miguel Angel as the team’s head coach for 2024-25 season.

Al Wakrah Club’s Vice-President Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Khalifa bin Hassan Al Thani signed the contract with the coach. The Blue Wave recently won the Qatar Cup after 25 years under coach Ali Rahma Al Marri, having won it in the earlier version in 1999.

Al Wakrah also finished fourth in the top flight Qatar Stars League (QSL) last season.

Angel last coached Spanish Sporting Gijon while the 39-year-old also served as the manager of Major League Soccer side Charlotte FC.

Al Shamal bolster squad with Bounedjah

Al Shamal have secured the signing of Algerian forward Baghdad Bounedjah for the next two seasons, keeping him at the club until 2026. Bounedjah joins the ranks of the club, adding significant experience and firepower to their attack.

The contract was finalized with Bounedjah meeting Mashal Al Ali, head of the club’s football team, and Ahmed Hussain Al Sada, the manager.

The Algerian star is expected to participate in the team’s pre-season training, which begins with a camp in Doha followed by an overseas training camp in Tel, Netherlands, from July 14 to August 2. Bounedjah boasts an impressive record in the Qatari League, having spent nearly nine years with Al Sadd where he was their top scorer.

He secured the league’s top scorer title on multiple occasions. Across all competitions at Al Sadd, the striker played a remarkable 232 matches, scoring a staggering 204 goals and contributing 60 assists.His trophy haul includes four league titles and three Emir Cups.

On the international stage, Bounedjah has made 61 appearances for the Algerian national team, contributing 25 goals. Notably, he played a pivotal role in securing Algeria’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations title in Egypt, scoring the winning goal in the final against Senegal.

This signing marks a significant boost for Al Shamal’s squad, and Bounedjah’s experience and proven goal-scoring prowess are sure to be valuable assets for the club in the upcoming season.
