The International Dates Council (IDC) welcomed Qatar’s membership, emphasising that this represents a significant value to the council due to Qatar’s scientific and technological advancements in palm cultivation and date quality improvement.

The council appreciated Qatar’s government’s interest in the palm and date sector, recognising its importance as a strategic crop and a product with exceptional nutritional value, as well as significant economic, social, environmental and cultural importance.

The council highlighted the role of the palm and date sector in achieving economic and social development, environmental protection and improving the income and living standards of workers in the field, in addition to enhancing food security in rural areas.

International Date Council comprises 15 countries, along with numerous international, regional and local organisations concerned with agriculture and the date sector. The council aims to promote cooperation among member states to develop the date sector, implement activities that require joint efforts to address the challenges facing the sector, tackle research and production technology issues, and enhance capacities to achieve sustainable development of dates both regionally and globally.
