Students from AFG College with the University of Aberdeen in Doha joined the students of the main campus in Aberdeen, Scotland, to receive their degrees at the University of Aberdeen graduation ceremony on June 26.

The AFG students graduating at the University of Aberdeen ceremony had successfully met all the necessary requirements, completing various undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

Abdulla Al Suabiey, one of the students graduating in Aberdeen, said, “After four years of study, I am very proud to be here in Scotland celebrating the culmination of all my hard work. It’s been a tough four years for all of us, especially having to study during the Covid disruptions, but I’m very pleased to see my efforts come to fruition and here I am finally walking across the stage to collect my certificate. It’s a great honour to be here in Aberdeen with so many of my classmates from all across the globe coming together to celebrate our achievements, and it makes it so much more special that we are able to share this special day with family and friends, who have also made the journey.”

The successful students were joined in Aberdeen by AFG College Principal Brian Buckley, who said, “Witnessing our graduates receiving their degrees was an important milestone in the continued success of our partnership campus that has continued to flourish since we opened in 2017. I was honoured to be present at this special occasion and I look forward to our future graduates following in the footsteps of these students.”

In addition to AFG’s students who were graduating, a special guest was also being honoured by the University of Aberdeen. Former British Ambassador to Qatar Jon Wilks CMG, who’s tenure came to an end in December 2023, was awarded an honourary doctorate for his contribution to public service and contribution in building bridges between the West and the Middle East.Jon commented, “I am delighted to be made an Honorary Doctor of the University of Aberdeen. I’m looking forward to supporting our international work, including the campus in Qatar.”

AFG College with the University of Aberdeen will be holding their own graduation ceremony in Doha this November, for graduates who did not attend the ceremony in Scotland.
