SofiacTypeface:> Bulgaria’s centre-right GERB-SDS alliance, which emerged the victors in early elections held last month, presented a pro-Western Cabinet in Sofia on Monday.

Former parliament speaker Rosen Zhelyazkov, a member of the GERB party, has been put forward as the new prime minister. Daniel Mitov, also of GERB and seen as pro-Western, is to be the new foreign minister. He has served in the post previously.

GERB-SDS leader Boyko Borisov said the new Cabinet’s first task would be to prepare a budget and for the introduction of the euro.

Parliament is to vote on the Cabinet on Wednesday. It is made up of prominent GERB members, with around a third also taken from the current transitional Cabinet.

Borisov warned that fresh elections could result if the Cabinet is not approved. Bulgaria has held six parliamentary elections in the past three years. (DPA)
