June 6 is marked as the National Day of Sweden. The pictures show the Swedish community in Qatar marking their National Day celebrations. Gustav Eriksson Vasa was elected king of Sweden on June 6, 1523 AD after he led an uprising to break the union between Sweden, Denmark, and Norway. Before 1983, the day was celebrated as the Swedish Flag Day; this day was renamed the Swedish National Day by the Riksdag and in 2005, it became the official Swedish public holiday.
