BerlincTypeface:> The water quality of the Seine River has reportedly been declared fit for swimming some three weeks before the start of the Paris Olympics. French media said on Thursday that the latest report compiled by the city of Paris and the region for the period from June 24 to July 2 said that water quality had improved and met European standards. The previous report from last week said that the water quality was still not good enough to organize competitions there as planned. Olympic organizers have also stressed that the conditions would improve once summer weather with less rain set in because at higher temperatures and lower water levels pathogens are broken down more quickly. Around €1.4 billion ($1.5 billion) were invested in wastewater treatment plants and the sewage system in the greater Paris area with a view to the Olympics which open on July 26 and run until August 11.
