James Rodriguez is having a great time at the CONMEBOL Copa America 2024. Captain and leader of the team led by Nestor Lorenzo, the number 10 was instrumental in the victory against Panama that put Colombia in the semi-final of the tournament at the University of Phoenix Stadium on Saturday.

The 32-year-old was involved in all three of Colombia’s first-half goals:

At 8’, he took the corner that ended up on Jhon Córdoba’s head

At 15’ from the penalty spot he scored his first goal in the CONMEBOL Copa América 2024.

At 40’, with a free kick from behind half court, he assisted Luis Díaz for Colombia’s 3-0.

James was replaced by Juan Fernando Quintero in the 70th minute, after Colombia’s fourth goal. The number 10 had had a dream match.

The player from Envigado reached 5 assists in the tournament, equalling Lionel Messi’s record in 2021 (in a statistic that has been held since 2011).

James has two games left to surpass the record and will now also seek to achieve his best result in the oldest national team tournament: he finished third in the CONMEBOL Copa América Centenario 2016.
