The National Centre for Cancer Care & Research (NCCCR) at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) hosted the 4th Qatar International Haematology Conference recently.Over two scientifically intensive days, experts from around the globe gathered in Doha to engage in insightful discussions, share expertise and collaborate on the future of haematology care in the region.

Prof Honar Cherif, chairman of Haematology and BMT at NCCCR and conference chairman, remarked that the conference was a resounding success, marked by a vibrant convergence of leading experts, researchers, and practitioners in haematology from around the globe. He said:” We featured an impressive array of keynote speakers who are pioneers in their respective areas, delivering insightful presentations on the latest advancements in haematology. Topics ranged from cutting-edge research in blood disorders and innovative treatment methodologies to groundbreaking developments in immune therapy, targeted therapy, and personalised medicine. The diverse sessions ensured a comprehensive exploration of both clinical and research aspects of haematology, catering to the interests of all attendees. The conference provided participants with hands-on experience and the opportunity to engage directly with leading experts.”

Prof Mohamed Yassin, head of Haematology at NCCCR and conference co-chair, highlighted: “The scientific programme featured the latest updates, ongoing controversies, and cutting-edge advancements in haematology, including acute and chronic leukaemia, myelodysplastic syndrome, myeloproliferative neoplasms, and lymphoma. The conference included 42 lectures from experts from Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Sweden, Spain, Egypt, the GCC, and Qatar. Additionally, we had ten scientific posters showcasing a wide range of research projects, reflecting our haematology community’s innovative spirit and dedication.”

Dr Anas Hamad, director of Pharmacy at NCCCR and Conference Co-Chair, noted: “The conference was the most significant haematology event ever held in Qatar and one of the largest in the GCC region. Over 500 physicians, pharmacists, nurses, allied healthcare professionals, researchers, students, and pharmaceutical industry representatives attended the event. Besides Qatar, delegates from Kuwait, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, and Oman participated. Furthermore, we had an interactive exhibition area with 15 exhibitors showcasing the latest innovations in treating haematological malignancies.”

Overall, the 4th Qatar International Haematology Conference in Doha was a landmark event. It brought together global experts and showcased pioneering innovations in the field. This high-profile conference significantly advanced the frontiers of haematological science and practice while fostering robust regional and international cooperation and collaboration.
