The State of Qatar has participated in an Arab workshop on the impact of current economic conditions on child labor in Arab countries, organised by the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, in cooperation with the Arab Council for Childhood and Development and the Arab Gulf Program for Development (AGFUND), and the Arab Labor Organization.

The workshop was attended by representative of the Permanent Delegation of the State of Qatar to the Arab League Amna Abdulrahman Al Sulaiti, along with representatives of national mechanisms concerned with childhood, ministries of labor, employers and workers organizations in the Arab countries, as well as representatives of relevant international, regional and national organisations and experts.

The Arab League explained, in a statement, that the workshop aims to identify the reality of the effects of the global economic crisis on the volume and pattern of child labor in Arab countries and its repercussions, by discussing a number of topics, including / child labor in Arab countries, multiple dimensions of poverty and child labor, and the sustainable development goals, and/child labor and human and legal protection in light of the economic crisis.

In this context, Ambassador Haifa Abu Ghazaleh, Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Social Affairs Sector at the Arab League, said that organizing the workshop comes in recognition of the seriousness of the issue of child labor, which represents a clear violation of children rights, and in continuation of the efforts undertaken by the League with regional and international partners within the framework of a study.

Child labour in Arab countries, which was prepared in 2019 and adopted as a guidance document to support the efforts of Arab countries to eliminate the phenomenon of child labour.
