The celebrations for Indonesia’s 79th Independence Day have begun with great enthusiasm in Doha. Indonesian Ambassador to Qatar HE Ridwan Hassan inaugurated the festivities by opening a bowling tournament on July 13. The event, organised by the Indonesian Embassy in collaboration with the Betawi Community Family in Qatar (LABEIQ) and supported by Indonesia’s Bank Central Asia (BCA), marked the start of a series of activities celebrating the occasion.

The bowling tournament saw participation not only from the Indonesian community in Qatar but also from other ASEAN communities, including those from Malaysia, Brunei and the Philippines. Ambassador Ridwan Hassan emphasised the importance of such activities, stating, "We do this activity routinely. Apart from strengthening the ties of brotherhood and kinship among the Indonesian people in Qatar, we also use tournaments like this to promote Indonesia to other foreigners in Qatar.”

"We thank the Government of Qatar for their continuous support in assisting us to organise our community events,” concluded Ambassador Ridwan Hassan.

The Indonesian Embassy in Doha has planned a series of activities to celebrate the 79th Independence Day. "This month we just started recruiting members of Paskibra who will be tasked with the flag-raising ceremony on August 17,” said Ali Murtado, head of the Socio-Culture Division of the Indonesian Embassy. Additionally, the Embassy will hold various competitions for both children and adults.
