US First Lady Jill Biden, the wife of US President Joe Biden, will lead the country’s delegation at the opening ceremony for the Olympic Games in Paris on July 26, the White House said on Friday.

Douglas Emhoff, the husband of Vice President Kamala Harris, will head the United States delegation for the closing ceremony on August 11.

The president has also named the delegations for the opening and closing ceremonies of the subsequent Paralympics, the White House announced.

The delegation to the Paralympics opening ceremony on August 28 will be led by US Senator Tammy Duckworth, a Democrat from Illinois and former US Army pilot who has used a wheelchair since losing both legs when her helicopter was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade in Iraq.

Secretary of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra will lead the US delegation to the Paralympics closing ceremony on September 8.
