The Ministry of Education and Higher Education has issued a new circular aiming to emphasize to private schools the prohibition of the use of corporal punishment against students in private schools and kindergartens.

The circular comes within the framework of the ongoing efforts to achieve Qatar National Vision 2030, which focuses on investing in the human element and protecting children’s rights in accordance with international standards.

The circular explained the necessity of adhering to the decision of the Minister of Education No (3) of 1993, which prohibits the use of corporal punishment against students.

It also stressed the necessity of adhering to decision no (57) of 2001, which prohibits any form of violence against children and students.

The circular highlighted the importance of encouraging a culture of positive and effective education based on dialogue and understanding between teachers and students.

It also called for providing continuous training for teachers and all those responsible for childcare on effective classroom management methods and dealing with student behavior in sound educational ways.

The circular stressed the need to devote efforts to spreading awareness of the harms of violence and beating on children’s psychological, emotional and educational health, and to encourage the school community to adopt positive practices for dealing with conflicts.

The circular also urged imposing strict penalties on violators in accordance with the list of penalties specified in private schools and kindergartens, and ensuring that the specialist in charge of supervising the school or kindergarten is informed of any violations that are detected.

This step is meant to enhance a safe educational environment and achieve the highest levels of psychological and social well-being for students, confirming the Ministry of Education’s commitment to protecting children’s rights and developing the educational process in the country.
