The Embassy of Turkiye in Qatar marked the 15 July Democracy and National Unity Day, paid tributes to the martyrs of the failed coup attempt of 2016, and expressed gratitude to the veterans.

On the sidelines of the 15 July Democracy and National Unity Day, the Turkish Embassy organised several events last week attended by Turkish citizens, members of the diplomatic corps, locals, residents, and media.

Addressing the members of the diplomatic Corp, the Turkish community and the locals, the Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Qatar HE Dr. Mustafa Göksu, and Armed Forces Attaché at the Embassy Col. Ali Çetin delivered speeches on the occasion.

A message from the President of the Republic of Turkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was read out on the occasion.

Turkish journalist-writer Kemal Öztürk and academic Prof. Dr. Kudret Bülbül, who were the keynote speakers at the event, shared their experiences of the FETÖ-led coup attempt and its reflections.

The event also welcomed Mrs Dilek Yaşar and Veysel Yaşar, parents of Ms. Seher Yaşar, a policewoman who was martyred in Ankara on 15 July 2016 while on duty at Special Operation Forces.

A short video prepared by the Directorate of Communication of Türkiye and an informative slide show was screened during the event.

An exhibition comprising photos taken by Anadolu Agency (AA), the official news agency of Turkiye showcased the happenings on the night of the 15 July 2016 coup attempt.

In this regard, a press briefing was held for members of the media on July 11. A panel titled ‘July 15 Coup Attempt Through the Eyes of Academics, Journalists and Victims’, was organised with the collaboration of the Embassy of Turkiye and Doha Yunus Emre Institute, with the participation of Mr and Mrs Dilek Yaşar, journalist Kemal Öztürk, and Prof. Dr. Kudret Bülbül.

On 14 July 2024, another panel titled ‘Arab Media and 15 July Coup Attempt’ was held with the collaboration of the embassy and Doha Yunus Emre Institute with the participation of Zein Elabadin Tawfik, a journalist and TV presenter at Al Jazeera Network.

On 15 July 2024, a commemoration ceremony was held at Türkiye-Qatar Combined Joint Task Force Command.

The images of President Erdoğan and the Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani were screened on Qatari buildings.

The Turkish Embassy also hosted the Ambassadors of African countries in Qatar on Tuesday to brief them about the experience of the fight against FETÖ and its activities on the continent.
