Striker Serhou Guirassy has completed a move from VfB Stuttgart to Borussia Dortmund on a four-year contract after an additional examination of his knee had a positive outcome.

The transfer was originally to go through last week but Dortmund were not satisfied with the medical regarding a knee problem.

Dortmund said that Guirassy signed until 2028 on Thursday, after another check by a specialist showed that he won’t require surgery over an injury sustained while playing for Guinea.

"He will now follow an individual programme for several weeks to build up his fitness, and the medical personnel expect him to be available later in the summer,” Dortmund said.

Guirassy scored 28 goals in Stuttgart’s stunning run to a Bundesliga runner-up finish, and he now follows centre back Waldemar Anton to Dortmund who came fifth in the Bundesliga and reached the Champions League final.

He arrives via a release clause estimated at €18 million ($19.2 million).

"Our expectations are to play at the highest possible level in the Bundesliga, the DFB Cup, the Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup, and we want to achieve our ambitious goals,” Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl said.

"To do that, we need top-class options in every position. Serhou is an all-round striker who poses a serious goal threat, and he will be a huge asset for us and our squad with his qualities.

"We’re thrilled that after his most recent medical examination he will soon be wearing a BVB shirt and scoring goals for us.” Guirassy said: "It’s special when Borussia Dortmund want to sign you. It’s important for me to say that I have come here to win titles. That’s my aim, that’s what spurs me on.

"BVB showed last season what the club is capable of by reaching the Champions League final.”
