Promoting Filipino art and culture in Doha over the years, members of the BESTClub Strategic Group (BCSG) took part in the recent Philippine Independence Day-themed KATE Mall Family Day in Barwa area.

Members of BCSG, who are Filipino artists, architects and memorabilia collectors, participated in the event.

Visual Arts by Gilbert Garcia

The visual arts exhibit was represented by Gilbert Garcia, a Fine Arts alumnus of the University of Santo Tomas and one of the 21 Filipino artists featured in the first Filipino art exhibit in Doha in 2010.

Most of Garcia’s artworks are reminiscent of surrealism, with his latest art-piece inspired by the event. BCSG also introduced novice artists and art neophytes, featuring artworks from Nicole, Jate, and Cristine Mae.

Architecture Exhibit by Filipino architects

For the architecture display, the architects who showcased their Philippine designs both in the traditional and contemporary styles, were Arch. Shaira Navarro, Arch. Edwind Mangalus, Arch. Jonathan Vanta, Arch. Arman Nojadera, Arch. Michael Garcia, and Arch. Tabuzo. The displays were curated by Arch. Mario Macaranas.

The Philippine heritage memorabilia collection courtesy of the Migi Collections, was one of the attractions during the event. Itconsisted of vintage stamps, coins and currencies, books from the 1950s era, "Teks” and comic cards – popular Filipino traditional games for children during the 80’s, and items signed and autographed by celebrities.

BCSG also collaborated with Qatar Diecast 164 for this event, another growingFilipino group of collectors of diecast vehicle toys.

Headed by Architect Migi Garcia, BCSG was established after the pandemic period. The group continuously promotes Filipinos’ diverse arts and culture especially to the new younger generation.

The organization also encourages Filipinos to make use of their extra time towards productive and creative means, financial education, skills and talent enhancement, support on seminars provided by the government and other worthy activities for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) in Qatar.
