Spain duo Álvaro Morata and Rodri are being investigated by UEFA over their behaviour during their Euro 2024 celebrations on Monday. An ethics and disciplinary inspector will be appointed, UEFA said in a statement on Friday, to probe the pair’s actions when the European Championship trophy was paraded in Madrid on Monday. Captain Morata tried to make fun of Germany’s Jamal Musiala while midfielder and player of the tournament Rodri, who plays in England with Manchester City, repeatedly sang "Gibraltar is Spanish” as team mates and fans joined in. Spain beat England in the Euro 2024 final in Berlin on Sunday. Britain, which England forms a part of, owns the Gibraltar peninsula at the southern tip of Spain. The Spanish have long sought its return. The Gibraltar FA complained to UEFA, writing: "The Gibraltar FA has noted the extremely provocative and insulting nature of the celebrations around the Spanish men’s national team winning Euro 2024. "Football has no place for behaviour of this nature.” (DPA)
