DOHA: The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change has concluded a workshop to discuss the preparation of the national strategy and action plan to combat desertification in Qatar.

It was heldfrom July 24 to 25, with the participation of a number of national state institutions.

The workshop, organised by the Wildlife Development Department, aimed to address the most important national challenges in the field of combating desertification, raise the level of public awareness of this issue, as well as develop programmes of leadership, innovation, and artistic and technical cooperation in the same field.

Mohammed Ahmed Al Khanji, Director of the Wildlife Development Department at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, confirmed during the workshop that Qatar continues its commitment to international environmental agreements by strengthening its efforts in combating desertification and environmental sustainability.

He noted that Qatar joined the Convention to Combat Desertification in 1999, which aims to combat desertification and mitigate the effects of drought in affected countries.
