Under the supervision of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE), 11 Qatari students are participating in the activities of the Summer Camp for Language and Culture held in the cities of Beijing and Hangzhou in China, as part of a project to expand the teaching of foreign languages to public school students.

The camp, being held from July 2 to 27, is intended for 11th-level students studying Chinese as an elective at HBKU’s Language Center. It is the second camp of its kind to feature Qatari students.

The camp aimed to introduce students to China’s culture, enhance their language skills in a local environment and their characteristics and introduce them to future jobs.

Students had the opportunity to develop their communication, critical thinking and problem-solving skills through the competencies and values of the general framework of the national curriculum.

The camp also aims to promote global awareness, understanding and cultural exchange through students’ participation in group lessons.

The camp programme included networking meetings, sporting activities and visits to heritage sites, in addition to participating in various Chinese cultural lectures and experiences.

The summer language and culture camps are part of the ‘Expansion of Foreign Language Teaching in Government Schools’ project launched by the MoEHE. The project aims to enhance the linguistic skills students acquire while studying foreign languages at school.

These camps provide an opportunity to familiarise students with the host country’s culture and improve their attributes through various activities and events.
