DOHA: The outage at 8.35pm on Friday was due to public works conducted by an Ashghal contractor, who inadvertently damaged one of its main lines, Ooredoo Qatar said in a statement on Saturday.

In a social media post, the telecom company thanked itscustomers for their understanding and cooperation on Friday, following a connectivity disruption which occurred at 8:35pm.

"The outage was due to public works conducted by an Ashghal contractor, who inadvertently damaged one of our main lines. Upon being notified, our technical team promptly responded and restored services," it said in the statement.

Ooredoo Qatar said itwill be working "closely with the Communications Regulatory Authority and Ashghal to ensure that such incidents do not reoccur and that our network infrastructure remains safeguarded".

"Once again, we apologise for this disruption which was beyond our control and thank our customers for their understanding."

In a post on Friday night,Ooredoo Qatar said:"Dear customers, we apologize for the inconvenience caused due to some difficulties that some of our customers are facing while using the mobile phone network. However, we assure you that we are working hard to solve this problem and return the services to work normally as soon as possible."
