The second edition of Katara Space Science Programme (KSSP), organised by MAPS International WLL in collaboration with Katara Cultural Village, concluded on a high note, leaving participants with a sense of excitement and inspiration. The event, held from July 23 to 25, featured a rich array of activities centred on the theme “Rocketing to Infinity: Deep Space Exploration and Returning to the Moon - The Artemis Programme.”

This edition of KSSP brought together an esteemed lineup of scientists, including Jim Adams, former NASA chief technologist from the USA, Dr. Brinda V., an outstanding scientist and retired director from ISRO, India, and Prof. (Dr.) PV Venkitakrishnan, a distinguished scientist and retired director from ISRO, India. Their expertise and insights provided an invaluable experience for all attendees.

The programme was structured into three sessions over the three days, each offering a unique blend of theoretical knowledge and practical experiences. One of the highlights was the hands-on workshop where participants-built prototype rockets and launched them from the Al Thuraya Planetarium.

Under the guidance and supervision of the visiting scientists, these rockets soared to heights exceeding 100 meters, providing a tangible demonstration of the fundamental principles of rocket science.

In addition to the scientific presentations and live interactions, the programme also featured the second edition of the “Cosmic Canvas - Space Art Exhibition.” This exhibition showcased stunning fine art and photography related to the theme, contributed by 20 renowned artists, offering a creative perspective on space exploration.

The overwhelming success of the KSSP’s July 2024 session was marked by a remarkable turnout of over 400 students from more than 80 schools across Qatar, alongside corporate officials.

A notable feature of the programme was the competition, which included impressive prizes such as authentic signed certificates from the esteemed scientists. This not only motivated the participants but also recognised their commitment and passion for space science.

The KSSP, a monthly initiative by Katara Cultural Village at Al Thuraya Planetarium, is open to all and participation is free. Interested individuals can register for upcoming sessions through the programme link: https://apply.katarassp.net.

The KSSP team is looking forward to welcoming larger and more diverse groups of participants in future editions, continuing to provide a platform for young space science and STEM enthusiasts, students, teachers, and others to learn, collaborate, and be inspired by leading scientists from around the world.
