Coco Yoshizawa led a Japanese one-two ahead of Liz Akama to claim gold in the women’s skateboarding street event at the Paris Olympics on Sunday.

Yoshizawa failed to score in two tricks but landed the highest scoring one of 96.49 points to a total of 272.75 points.

Akama had the highest score in the run portion, but missed three tricks to a total of 265.95 points.

Bronze went to Brazilian Rayssa Leal, who claimed silver at Tokyo 2020 where she also shared a podium with two Japanese athletes. Leal is now the youngest Brazilian athlete to step on the podium in different editions of Olympic Games at 16 years old.

Yoshizawa landed a near-perfect big spin flip frontside boardslide on her fourth trick, which received a score of 96.46 and propelled her to the top of the leaderboard.

Akama got off to a strong start, however, she did not record a score on her last three tricks but was able to hold the silver due to her strong second run where she scored 89.26.

Japan also took gold in the Tokyo 2020 event, when Momiji Nishiya became the youngest person ever to win a gold medal for the nation at 13 years.
