IslamabadcTypeface:> At least 42 people have been killed in north-western Pakistan in a clash between the local tribes that are divided along sectarian lines.

The killings, after almost a week of fighting, took place in the Kurram district of the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, officials said on Tuesday.

The region has a troubled history of sectarian violence and the latest flare-up, over the ownership of a piece of land, saw the use of heavy weaponry, including rocket launchers and mortar shells, according to local media reports.

“We have received at least 42 dead and more than 170 injured. They have bullet injuries and some are in serious condition, fighting for their lives,” said Mir Hassan Jan, the head of the government-run hospital in Parachinar. (DPA)
