Doha Municipality held an extensive inspection and awareness campaign on food establishments in hotels. The campaign included more than 155 hotels and their restaurants and cafeterias as the summer season progresses and there is increased demand for these hotels by families and individuals at the end of the school year.

The campaign lasted for 15 days and was attended by more than 30 veterinarians and food inspectors, in the presence of officials from the Control Department.

During the campaign, health awareness was provided to more than 620 workers inside hotel establishments on the importance of the role of food handlers in the food chain and explaining the causes of diseases transmitted through food, and the effective application of the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points programme. In addition, 55 diverse samples of food were withdrawn and analysed in the central laboratory to ensure their suitability for human consumption and compliance with standard specifications.

This campaign comes within the framework of the role played by the Ministry of Municipality, represented by the supervisory authorities in the municipalities, which are authorised under the provisions of Law No 8 of 1990 regarding the regulation of human food control to implement the health policy in everything related to food safety, in line with the directives issued by the Minister of Municipality to intensify the supervisory and awareness role on food and its circulation places to ensure its safety and suitability for human consumption and prevent the circulation of any food that does not conform to specifications.
