The people of Qatar have built a great country with a rich history and are friendly and generous, said the Ambassador of the Republic of Peru, HE Jose A. Benzaquen Perea.
He was addressing a reception hosted by him to celebrate the 203rd National Day of his country at Hotel Sheraton Grand Doha.
Those present on the occasion included HE Minister of State, Dr Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al Khulaifi; HE Ibrahim Yousif Fakhro, Director of Protocol, Ministry of Foreign Affairs; HE Al Muhanad Al Hamadi, Director of Department of American Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs; ambassadors; dignitaries; guests; and members of the Peru Community.
HE Jose A. Benzaquen Perea said that this year the Republic of Peru and the State of Qatar are celebrating the 35th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. “On this occasion, we refresh ourselves to remember the official visit paid by Father Amir HH Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani in February 2013 followed by the visit of Amir of the State of Qatar HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in October 2018 during which several bilateral agreements and MoUs were signed in different sectors,” he said.
“Recently, the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Peru visited Qatar in November 2023 and participated in the Second Round of Political Consultations,” Ambassador Perea added.
Peru’s envoy to the State of Qatar said, “Both countries share common goals such as the defence of human rights, mediation for peace and stability across the world, health and education for our people, respect for the International Law, promoting sustainable development and environmental conservation, diversifying the economy by promoting trade and investments, and strong sports diplomacy.”
Ambassador Perea lauded the successful hosting of the International Horticultural Expo Doha 2023, in which 88 countries participated including his country Peru with its pavilion.
He said the world always remembers the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 which displayed exceptional organizational skills, reflecting Qatari creativity and advanced technology. “It was truly unforgettable,” he said while adding that 11,000 Peruvians had visited Qatar and witnessed the colours of their country raised in all the most emblematic places around of beautiful city of Doha.”
The Republic of Peru is a country in Western South America bordered in the north by Ecuador and Colombia, in the east by Brazil, Bolivia to the southeast, and Chile to the South. The envoy said his country’s history goes back to over thousands of years ago, which is reflected in the “Coral Culture”, the oldest civilization in America. One of the most diverse countries in the world with an area of 1,285,000 sq km, it has a population of 34 million with its capital in Lima.
The envoy of Peru said that his country has 12 world heritage sites recognized by UNESCO and 84 of 117 life zones that exist on the planet.
Peru, he noted, has one of the 7 modern world wonders and the marvellous Citadel Machu Picchu, the World’s longest Amazon River, and the highest navigable Lake Titicaca in the Andes.
