DOHA: The Personalized Medicine Alliance praised, in its monthly report, Qatar's ongoing efforts to advance personalized medicine and move forward with its ambitious plan to integrate this speciality into its national healthcare strategy aimed at enhancing economic development and improving the quality of life of the population.

Today’s Personalized Medicine magazine highlighted the efforts of the Center for Clinical Precision Medicine and Genomics at Hamad Medical Corporation and its commitment to promoting progress in personalized healthcare and enhancing Qatar’s global position in the field of precision medicine.

The report noted the innovative methods used by the centre to help ensure the provision of optimal care to patients and presented some of the latest research conducted by the centre and the latest technologies it provides, as well as the work team consisting of experts and specialists. It also highlighted how the State of Qatar is including personalized medicine as a basic element in its plans to develop the economy and improve the lives of individuals.

The Personalized Medicine Alliance is a prestigious organization that aims to support and advance personalized medicine approaches by uniting the efforts of healthcare providers, researchers, patient groups, and healthcare leaders to promote innovation, develop policy, educate the public, and improve patient outcomes through treatments tailored to the individual needs of each patient.

Personalized medicine or precision medicine is a medical approach based on designing the healthcare provided to each patient individually based on the patient's genetic makeup, lifestyle and environment. Dr Salha Bu Jasoom Al Bader, Director of the Center for Clinical Precision Medicine and Genomics and Head of the Department of Oncology and Palliative Care at the National Center for Cancer Care and Research at Hamad Medical Corporation, said that the recognition received by the Center from 'Personalized Medicine Today' confirms the Center’s full commitment to providing personalized healthcare plans, conducting research and educational activities, using the latest advanced technologies, and supporting clinical initiatives that ensure the possibility of providing tests and treatments according to personalized medicine methodologies to patients who need them.

She pointed out that Qatar believes that adopting precision medicine initiatives will translate into better health outcomes for the population, as efforts are directed towards establishing a proactive, predictive and accurate healthcare system, which contributes to ensuring that every individual receives the appropriate treatment at the appropriate time.
