The Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) Doha LLC (G), conducted its annual Accountancy Week Celebration from July 12 to 17.

In line with Republic Act No. 9298, this event aimed to honor the contributions of accountants, advance professional development, and facilitate networking and collaboration among members.

Additionally, it sought to raise public awareness of the accounting profession, promote ethical standards, and showcase the community’s commitment to social responsibility. The week commenced with a Quiz Bowl on July 12, from 2pm to 4pm at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Doha Old Town.

The event featured teams demonstrating their knowledge across various accounting disciplines.

The champion team included Rey Barcena, Rotinie Dela Torre, and Cyrelgerom Catchero. The first place award was received by Alvin Polido and Ivy Angustia, while the second place was awarded to Grace Padiernos, Vanessa Moderno, and Paulo Chua.

Later the same day, from 5pm to 8pm, a Bowling Fun Day was held at the Qatar Bowling Center, adding a recreational element to the celebrations.

The top-performing team consisted of Kathryn Fajardo, Alan Alaska, Patrick Soriano, Mark Louie Magno, and Alyssa Tuviera.

The first Runner-Up position was secured by Jeamma Vary Tamayo, Earn Dela Torre, Rey Barcena, Jinky Gale, and Levi Aguilar, with the second Runner-Up title going to Gerald Fusana, Rowena Cahintong, Sherman Ilustre, and Ruby Nepacena.

In addition to these activities, an Online Trivia Challenge took place from July 12 to 17 through the official PICPA Doha Facebook page. This challenge tested participants’ knowledge of accounting history, with Rotinie Pamplona Nidea emerging as the winner. Grace Torres and Jeremy Santiago earned 2nd and 3rd places, respectively.

The successful execution of these events was spearheaded by Council officers Jeamma Varry Tamayo, Kentry Ayson, Rowena Cahintong, Rey Barcena, and Jay Rafael Angeles, whose leadership and dedication ensured the smooth flow of the week’s activities.

Accountancy Week 2024 demonstrated that the accounting profession encompasses more than technical skills, highlighting the importance of networking and community engagement.

This year’s events illustrated the active and collaborative spirit of the accounting community in Doha.
