Seoul: South Korea has already recorded 11 heat-related deaths this summer.

The Yonhap news agency, citing data from the Disease Control and Prevention Agency, reported five deaths due to the high temperatures were recorded this weekend alone.

The victims included farmers who collapsed from exhaustion while working in the fields. Since last Monday, there have also been 386 admissions to the emergency wards.

Large parts of South Korea have been suffering from a heatwave since last week, with daytime temperatures of over 35 degrees Celsius and very warm nights.

In some areas, temperatures of almost 40 degrees Celsius have even been recorded. The Korea Meteorological Administration says the heatwave is expected to continue for around 10 more days. (DPA)
